Personal Care Products Council Hires Thomas Myers as Associate General Counsel – Association also Announces Departure and Promotion

Thomas F. Myers will join the Personal Care Products Council as Associate General Counsel later this month.  Myers is currently Counsel, Committee Executive for the Environment, Technology & Regulatory Affairs Division at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is also the executive of the Chamber’s Regulatory Affairs Committee; a group made up of more than 100 industry representatives that creates all regulatory policy for the U.S. Chamber.

In making the announcement, General Counsel and Executive Vice President for Legal Elizabeth Anderson said, “We look forward to Tom joining our distinguished legal team.  His background is impressive, and we are anxious to utilize his diverse and extensive experience in both national and key state legal and regulatory arenas to better serve our members.”

Prior to his position at the Chamber, Myers served as Environmental Counsel to IE Discovery, Inc.  where he oversaw a team of attorneys and legal analysts that served a variety of clients, including the United States Navy and the U.S. Department of Justice. He was also an Associate at several prestigious laws firms in Washington, D.C. and Detroit.

Myers received his B.A. degree in Communications from Marquette University and his J.D. from the University of Detroit Law School.  In 2007, he was awarded the Certificate of Achievement by the Executive Leadership Program at Georgetown University and has been a recognized speaker and panelist for more than a dozen events over the past several years.

Myers replaces Associate General Counsel Frances Wu who joined the organization in 2006 and decided earlier this year to resign her position in June to pursue other interests. Anderson expressed disappointment at Wu’s departure adding, “Frances has played such a significant role here – from her leadership on issues such as air quality and green chemistry laws at the state level, to handling many internal legal matters for the Council, Frances has been a key player in servicing our members. She is a consummate professional who will be greatly missed.”

In addition, Farah K. Ahmed has been promoted to Associate General Counsel.  For the last four years, Ahmed has worked in a number of key areas and advocated on behalf of the beauty industry.  She currently leads the Council’s Sunscreen Task Force, the Organic/Natural Committee and manages a number of FDA and FTC issues including product labeling and advertising. She is also Convenor of the Organization of International Standardization’s (ISO) Cosmetic Marketing and Packaging Group. Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Science (physiology and biochemistry) from Niagara University, is a graduate of the University Of Virginia School of Law and is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia.
