PCPC Statement on Ingredient Safety

Washington, D.C. — “Cosmetics and personal care products must be substantiated for safety. Our member companies take responsibility for consumer safety seriously, and safety assessments are grounded in the best science available.

“We have a long history of upholding science and safety best practices, often going beyond what is required by law. For decades prior to the implementation of the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulations Act, PCPC members participated in an array of voluntary reporting practices to promote ingredient safety and industry transparency.

“We know that safety is the most critical consideration when caring consumers are purchasing products, and we will continue to provide accurate, transparent information about how cosmetics and personal care products work, their safety and the science behind commonly used ingredients. We will continue to take a science-driven approach to provide safe and effective products that consumers use every day.”
