PCPC Applauds the Introduction of the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Personal Care Products Council released the following statement on the bipartisan SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on June 3. If enacted, the bill would modernize the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to improve the regulatory review process for U.S. nonprescription sunscreen active ingredients.
“The SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act is a step in the right direction towards enhancing skin cancer prevention measures. Ensuring timely access to innovative and effective FDA-approved sunscreen products is essential for U.S. consumers to proactively prevent skin cancer and safeguard public health.
“PCPC and its member companies will continue to advocate for non-animal testing methods and modern UV filter approval processes for sunscreen safety evaluations. We applaud Representatives John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13), Deborah Dingell (MI-06), David Joyce (OH-14) and Deborah Ross (NC-02) for their leadership to bring greater transparency, scientific rigor and efficiency by streamlining outdated sunscreen UV filter approval pathways.”
