The council is pleased to announce the addition of a special ½ day session to the 2011 Cosmetic Science Symposium & Expo!  Jointly organized by the U.S. Personal Care Products Council and the European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), the symposium will address a number of critical topics directly affect cosmetic ingredients.

Convention on Biodiversity: International Treaty and the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization.
Speaker:  Patricia Wu

The Treaty and Nagoya Protocol has already been signed by 36 countries and the European Union and is open for signature until 1 February 2012. It is now a legally binding international instrument on access and benefit-sharing. It is recognized that implementation will present an enormous challenges for suppliers of cosmetic ingredients. This presentation will provide an overview of the Treaty and provide as much technical support as possible making it easier for suppliers to understand the implication of the treaty on the cosmetics industry.

European Issues Affecting Cosmetic Ingredients 

Cosmetic Recast: Animal Testing Ban
Speaker: Reinhart Kreiling, Chair EFfCI  Toxicology Working Group

The EU cosmetic recast will establish a prohibition on the marketing of cosmetic products and ingredients tested on animals effective 2013. This talk will evaluate the ban, strategies for conformance and the potential impact on the suppliers of cosmetic ingredients.

Cosmetic Recast: Guideline on Claims
Speaker:  Silvia Boracchi, Chair EFfCI Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety

The cosmetic recasts interpretation of the data requirements in Annex I of the obligations under Article 20 -- the Product Claims.

ICCR

The International Cooperation on Cosmetic Regulation (ICCR), a voluntary group of cosmetics regulatory authorities from the US, Japan, the EU, and Canada, met for the first time in September 2007. In the succeeding 5 years a number of important programs, directly affecting cosmetic ingredients, have been completed including those in the areas of Nanomaterials, Traces, and Safety Assessment. These, new and on-going programs will be reviewed.
