Joe Schwarcz
Director of McGill University's Office for Science and Society

Joe is the Director of McGill University's Office for Science and Society, a unique enterprise with a mandate of demystifying science for the public, the media and students. Dr Schwarcz also teaches a variety of courses in McGill's Chemistry Department and in the Faculty of Medicine with emphasis on health issues, including aspects of "Alternative Medicine". He is well known for his informative and entertaining public lectures on topics ranging from the chemistry of love to the science of aging. Using stage magic to make scientific points is one of his specialties.

Thia Breen
President, North America, The Estée Lauder Companies


Thia Breen oversees the business of all 29 of The Estée Lauder Companies brands in the North America Region. Thia was previously Global President of the Estée Lauder brand overseeing the global growth of the brand in over 130 countries, as well as day-to-day supervision of the business in the Americas. Joining the company in 1977, Thia has worked on leading beauty brands including: Aramis, Clinique, and Origins, where as a member of the founding team she helped to establish the brand's unique profile.

Scott Beattie, Chairman,
President and CEO, Elizabeth Arden, Inc.

In his role at Elizabeth Arden, Mr. Beattie has been involved in every element of the company's expansion and development since its inception in 1992. Mr. Beattie's vision and leadership has lead Elizabeth Arden through a modern transformation. His focus upon product innovation, brand development and global expansion has more than doubled the size of the Elizabeth Arden brand since its acquisition in 2001, and its fragrance portfolio has expanded to encompass over 165 owned and licensed brands.

Stefano Curti
President, J&J Consumer Products Co. Beauty


Stefano has been with Johnson & Johnson for over 19 years, holding a variety of Marketing and General Management positions. Prior to Neutrogena, he was Managing Director for Johnson & Johnson in Europe, with responsibility for the EAME Health / Wound Care Franchise, the Nordic businesses, and the European integration of Rembrandt from the Gillette Company. He also served as Franchise Director, Johnson & Johnson Europe, Africa and Middle East, and led a number of regional Franchises throughout the years.

Genevieve Monsma
Beauty Director, More


Genevieve Monsma is the Beauty Director of both More magazine and more.com, where she reports on the latest skin, hair, and makeup news, filtered through an anti-aging lense. Monsma has been covering the beauty market for almost 15 years and has written and edited for a wide variety of audiences. She was previously the Beauty Director at Shape where she wrote extensively about the evolving "green" beauty world; the Deputy Beauty Director at Marie Claire where she reported on beauty trends as well as fitness and nutrition; and the founding Beauty Director at CosmoGirl where she helped to grow the Cosmopolitan spin-off.

Amy Keller Laird
Deputy Editor/Beauty Director, Allure

Amy Keller Laird is the deputy editor/beauty director of Allure, where she oversees the beauty department and beauty coverage, pitches story ideas, covers press events, and interviews top dermatologists, hairstylists, makeup artists, and cosmetic executives. Previously, she worked as the beauty director at Shop Etc., and as beauty features editor at Allure. She has also worked in the beauty departments of Good Housekeeping, Redbook, and Organic Style. She has appeared on television shows including The Today Show, The Early Show, and Good Morning America.

Emily Dougherty
Beauty and Fitness Director, ELLE

Emily Dougherty is the Beauty and Fitness Director of ELLE, a post she has held since 2003. Under Dougherty's direction, ELLE's beauty pages have won an unprecedented 11 Fragrance Foundation FiFi awards and 9 American Academy of Dermatology Gold Triangle Awards, more beauty awards than any other magazine. In her 15 years as a beauty journalist, Dougherty has tested anti gravity skin care creams at Cape Canaveral, gone undercover as a makeup artist at film festivals, fashion shows, and on movie sets, and regularly gives expert advice on national broadcasts including ABC's Good Morning America and NBC's Today Show.

Ying Chu
Beauty & Health Director, Marie Claire

Ying Chu was named beauty director of the U.S. edition of Marie Claire, a joint venture between Hearst Magazines and Marie Claire Album, in May 2007. She oversees all aspects of the beauty editorial, and in 2008, also took on the health coverage for the magazine. Prior to joining Marie Claire, Chu was the beauty director at Seventeen.
  Chu began her career as at Canada's Flare magazine, where she quickly ascended the ranks, starting as an assistant beauty editor upon graduation from Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario, then moving up to beauty editor and beauty director within three years.

Amy Synnott-D’annibale
Beauty Director, Instyle

As beauty director of InStyle since 2005, Amy Synnott-D’Annibale is responsible for uncovering the latest trends and revealing the hottest products and technologies to enhance the personal style of over 10 million women each month.  In addition to overseeing all beauty coverage for the flagship luxury magazine, she produces in-depth features including the blockbuster “Best Beauty Buys” franchise, now in its 16th year. Synnott-D’Annibale is also editor of two annual special issues, InStyle Hair and InStyle Makeover.

 

Art Spiro
EVP, Fragrance Innovation, Elizabeth Arden

Art Spiro is responsible for fragrance creation at Elizabeth Arden. He also heads up "white space" projects that offer new fragrance opportunities for the company. Prior to joining Elizabeth Arden, Spiro was President of Liz Claiborne brands' business development from sales & marketing to product development and operations. Among his accomplishments are the successful launches of Curve, Lucky You, Juicy Couture, and the Usher fragrance collection.  Spiro is known as an extremely affable, hands-on team leader.
