The 2009 Regulatory Science Summit will be held Tuesday, December 15 & Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in the Washington, D.C. area. This year marks the third Regulatory Science Summit that has become a very important and much needed bridge between regulators and industry. Attend sessions pairing industry experts and regulators addressing the Science of Compliance, Lead in Lipstick, Talc, Stability Testing, EPA’s nanotechnology research initiatives, as well as updates on other topics of interest to the personal care products industry.

Speaker/Topic Highlights:
- Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, FDA principal deputy commissioner, Office of the Commissioner, will talk about FDA, science and the new administration.
- Dr. Linda Katz, director of the Office of Cosmetics and Colors, will present on FDA’s Cosmetics Program along with Dr. Robert Bronaugh, on science activities.
- Peter Barton Hutt, senior counsel, Covington & Burling, will be the featured speaker opening the Summit. He will discuss the long history of science being the guiding principle for FDA.
- Luisa Carter-Phillips, head of Cosmetics Division, on current cosmetic activities in Health Canada.
- Dr. Stanley Milstein, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, on the International Cooperation on Cosmetic Regulation initiative.
- Dr. Jeff Morris, national program director for nanotechnology, Office of Research and Development, and Dr. Jim Willis, director chemical control division; Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics, speaking on EPA’s Nanotechnology Research and Regulatory Strategy.
- Dr. William Troy, current president of the Board of the Fragrance Materials Association of America.
